Historically, in many workplaces, employees brought in their refreshment supplies and made their own hot drinks or used a flask. That caused employers concerns, because individuals also brought in their second-hand kettles, which usually did not meet with the current safety standards. The alternative was for the company to provide kettles or hot-water urns.
Refreshment breaks in the workplace have always been a source of conflict between employees and management. Employees were often accused of taking extended breaks, or too many breaks. They responded with complaints about the distance they had to go to get a hot drink, or the queue they had to stand in when they got there.
Introducing vending machines in rest areas has proved popular with employees and eliminated the need for kettles in the work area. If the rest and vending area is incorporated into the office area, staff are less likely to take frequent or extended breaks. They can get their hot drink from the office coffee service and return to their desk if that is allowed.
Many large and modern office complexes are designed so their floor plan includes an area for refreshments and vending services. The preferred method for providing office vending services would be on a contract basis. The service supplier maintains, cleans and replenishes stocks and retains ownership of the machines. In many cases, the cost of the machine rental for the employer is minimal.
Many employees take advantage of food and drink machines to save time. They do not want to waste time going outside the office for food and drinks, especially in the bad weather. They can usually take their pick and enjoy a wide variety of hot and cold drinks and food.
Reputable firms that provide kitchen supplies Pittsburgh area and elsewhere around the US, survey their customers and monitor buying habits to determine the types of products that are popular. They also take into account the information supplied by health providers and nutritionists on what makes a healthy snack or dinner. They aim to provide food and coffee vending services to meet customer demands.

Independent filmmakers are urging festival organizers to work more closely with government and TV networks in helping beef up film distribution, ?if they?re serious about changing the industry.?
Independent filmmaking is undeniably thriving at the moment, director Emmanuel dela Cruz said at a recent press con for the coming 2012 Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival.
?We have an abundance of emerging talents, but most of them are stuck in the festivals,? he told the Philippine Daily Inquirer. ?Their films should be seen by a wider audience.?
Dela Cruz said filmmakers shared the sentiment that there were more than enough film festivals, but that ?the weak link is distribution.? This was what the higher-ups should focus on, he said.
He said Cinema One could help address this issue by awarding distribution as a prize for worthy films.

Those predicting the death of the e-reader in 2012 at the hands of cheap 7-inch tablets have gotten quite the surprise this year. The space is quite alive, thanks to heated competition between industry leaders such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble and some solid choices from the likes of Kobo and Sony. There are still plenty of options for those who like a little multimedia with their books -- and don't mind doing their reading on an LCD.

App Cubby, the company behind Timer 2.0, will be removing the in-app ad -- an icon advertising another app -- and has issued an apology to their users for inserting it in the first place. It's a classy and extremely customer-centric move. App Cubby's David Barnard said:
Given all the mistakes and bad assumptions, it?s clear that the best choice here is to immediately change course. For now I?m going to replace the ads with an apology, and later today I?ll be submitting an update to Timer that removes the ad completely.
Please accept my sincere apologies for making a mess of a great app.
Barnard considers the mistakes to be a) underestimating how many Timer users had bought the app in the couple of months before it went free, b) forcing the update on those past users, c) making the ad too clever (so much so that users don't realize it's an ad).
I understand the ambiguity argument when it comes to the ad. An app icon on a grid amid many other icons could easily be mistaken for an action item instead. Personally, however, I have no problem with the core idea of ads being added to apps. I'd much prefer that than the app being discontinued because the developer can no longer afford to keep it going. Business realities change. The App Store economy changes. Developers have to respond to those changes or go out of business.
Some people think users don't care about developers having sustainable businesses, but if users start not getting the apps they want, they'll start to care. Developers, just like all of us, are trying to figure out how to make enough money to feed their families. They'll try things, they'll stumble, they'll get up, they'll adjust, and hopefully they'll hit it big.
Kudos to David for recognizing a faulty tactic in what looks to still be a sound strategy, and hopefully he hits it big with the next revision, or the next app. In the meantime, go download Timer 2.0, still for free, on the App Store. Ad or no add, it's a terrific app.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese outfielder Ichiro Suzuki has lost patience with the New York Yankees over a contract extension and has begun talking with other teams, his agent said on Friday. The Yankees have been busy locking up their principle pitchers, paying Hiroki Kuroda $15 million, Andy Pettitte $12 million and Mariano Rivera $10 million, drawing frustration from Ichiro. "At the beginning we talked a lot but since that time, zero," Ichiro's agent Tony Attanasio told Friday's New York Post. "As far as we are concerned we don't care what the Yankees do. ...
