AUTOS: Special Mustang In Charity Auction
Only School Bus Yellow 2012 model, also fitted with Laguna Seca track equipment and signed by Parnelli Jones, to benefit Detroit health-care organization.
A one-of-a-kind 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 painted School Bus Yellow goes under the hammer Oct. 15 to raise money for the Henry Ford Health System, a non-profit health-care organization based in Detroit.School Bus Yellow will be a 2013 color for the Boss 302 Mustang, but only one 2012 model (the one up for grabs) will be sprayed in this hue and striped in honor of racing legend Parnelli Jones, who has also signed the car. Like all Boss 302 Mustangs, it comes with a 5-liter V8, good for 444 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
It?s a Laguna Seca Edition as well, which means that the lucky winner gets a track-ready collectible complete with race compound tires, additional chassis bracing, stiffer rear springs and a more comprehensive aero package. Inside, there?s a unique gauge package and Recaro cloth sport seats, embroidered with the Boss 302 logo. What you won't get is a rear seat, since that's replaced by a cross brace in Laguna Seca Edition cars.
Bargain hunters need not apply since charity auction cars can fetch some truly astounding auction prices. A 2012 Boss 302 in Grabber Blue sold for charity at a recent Barrett-Jackson auction for $450,000, which should give you an idea of how much it will cost to own this example.
The live auction of this unique vehicle takes place at the Winner?s Circle Afterglow event at 8 p.m. (ET) on Oct. 15 at the Ford Motor Company Conference and Event Center in Dearborn, Michigan. Nationally known auctioneers Spanky and Amy Assiter, who are featured at Barrett-Jackson auctions, will be in attendance to run the auction.
Auction bidders need not be present but must register in advance to participate by phone. The registration fee for phone participants is $500, which is waived for Shelby Track Event or Winner's Circle Afterglow ticket purchasers.
