Child and Family Support Worker ? Full Time
Circles of Care and Connection

Circle of Care and Connection is an Early Childhood Development focused family support program providing home-based support to refugee families with young children who are settling in Vancouver.

The Child and Family Support Worker is responsible for assisting refugees with children aged 0-6 to access resources and integrate into Vancouver neighbourhoods. Based on the assessed needs of clients, h/she provides culturally appropriate ECD and family support services. The CFSW plays a key role in creating and monitoring a family service and early learning plan.
The ideal candidate will:
? Be knowledgable about and committed to the principles and practice of family-centred care
? Be sensitive to the needs of the child and the family, which will change over time
? Bring a wondering curiosity and genuine interest in learning from other cultures
? Be willing to go beyond traditional approaches to support children and families, even at the cost of personal convenience (e.g. flexibility in working hours)
? Possess of non-judgmental and genuinely positive attitudes (culture, religion, sexuality, special needs)
? Have great patience

Key Duties
? Building upon relationships of trust, assist Government Assisted Refugee families in planning and providing experiences in the home and community which will encourage the growth and development of their children 0-6 years old,
? Work with and provide mentorship and training to up to five Family Outreach Assistants using strengths-based methodology to build the capacity of community members to support themselves.
? Work collaboratively with ECD/family service providers to link and integrate families into existing community based ECD /family support programs.
? Participate in the planning and implementation of play-based programs for children and their families (in-house as well as collaborative groups)
? Participate in program planning and implementation, including regular documentation to make children?s learning visible and use this as a tool to engage with children and their families
? Assess the development of children, develop a culturally appropriate program plan and ensure that parents and relevant professionals are aware of how services will be coordinated, where needed
? Liaise with social workers and other professionals to establish systemic and collaborative working relationships, where appropriate
? Ensure documentation / record keeping required is completed in timely manner and in accordance with program requirements and standards. (which may include input / creation of: case notes, incident reporting, minutes of meetings, letter writing, report writing and summaries

Qualifications and Experience
? Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
? Demonstrated understanding and experience working in ECD environments in B.C.
? Demonstrated experience in community development and outreach.
? Interviewing, assessment and problem solving skills.
? Demonstrated ability to work in a team and independently.
? Demonstrated group facilitation skills working with multicultural groups.
? Excellent cross-cultural communication skills (verbal and basic counseling).
? Understanding of and experience in working with refugees and immigrants.
? Excellent oral and written English language skills.
? Additional language skills an asset.
? Proficient in MS Word, Excel, email, and Internet.
? Continuous professional development, including reading relevant journals, books and publications.

Remuneration: Full Time, 35 hours per week. $22.34 plus benefits after 3 months employment

Early Childhood Development Program Coordinator ? Full TimeCircles of Care and Connection

Circle of Care and Connection is an Early Childhood Development focused family support program providing home-based support to refugee families with young children who are settling in Vancouver.

The Early Childhood Development Program Coordinator will be a dynamic and experienced early childhood educator who will develop and implement early learning programs for refugee families, act as an early childhood development resource for staff and develop training for staff and other ECD service providers across Vancouver. Experience and willingness to work in groups and one to one with children 0 ? 6 years old, and knowledge of and ability to do developmental assessments are required.

This position will form part of a leadership team.

The ideal candidate will:

Key Duties
? Overall coordination of group activities, ensuring that groups fit within the project mandates around early childhood development, community capacity building and parenting in the Canadian context.
? Develop a system for assessing the trends and needs that might be addressed in group work, in collaboration with the Manager, Team Lead and staff.
? Hire, assign and supervise early childhood educators and ECE assistants as needed, including conducting performance reviews as required.
? Recruit and support contracted facilitators for specific groups (e.g. where no one internal is available or has the skills)
? Provide ongoing consultation, feedback and supervision to group facilitators,
? Provide consultation to daycare centres, school and community programs around the needs of refugee families
? Facilitate groups where appropriate
? Working collaboratively with agencies across the city, set up early childhood programming for refugee families at various sites across the city
? Implement regular assessments of children, and referral to appropriate clinical supports
? Develop and facilitate workshops and training opportunities for staff and other ECD service providers
? Take a leadership role in implementing agency and program policies and procedures

Qualifications and Experience
? Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Development and Education or a combination of relevant education and 15 years related work experience
? Licensed BC Early Childhood Educator with Special Needs preferred
? Broad understanding of ECD in the context of families and community
? Demonstrated experience working with children from diverse cultural background
? Demonstrated broad delivery experience of ECD to parents and adults from diverse cultural backgrounds, colleagues and service provider groups
? Demonstrated group facilitation, assessment and problem solving skills
? Knowledge of early childhood development resources/community in Vancouver and BC and ability to work collaboratively with existing service providers
? Excellent cross-cultural communication skills (verbal and basic counselling)
? Excellent oral and written English language skills
? Additional language skills an asset
? Ability to work in a team environment and independently
? Proficient in MS Word, Excel, email, and Internet
? Flexibility with location and hours of work ? some evening/weekend work may be required, programs may be offered in different settings
? Continuous professional development, including reading relevant journals, books and publications
? Experience working with groups and one to one with children 0 ? 6 years old and their families
? Ability to perform developmental assessments is required
