Most Olympic champions were content with a postbox painted gold in honour of their Games victories, but Luke Campbell?s home town has painted a telephone box gold to mark the boxer?s penultimate day triumph. Phone company KC yesterday set its painters to work on the box closest to St Paul?s Boxing Academy, where Campbell began boxing at the age of 13. ?We wanted to mark Luke?s success in a way that only Hull can,? a KC spokesman said. Luke Campbell?s achievement was marked in his hometown of Hull (Picture: PA) Hull is the only place on mainland Britain where BT does not operate. The city is famous for its cream phone boxes. Royal Mail has also painted a postbox gold to celebrate the 24-year-old?s win. The golden postboxes have caused an element of controversy. A man was arrested in Lymington for painting a post box gold in honour of Olympic sailing winner Ben Ainslie, who is a local resident. Rob Smith took on the DIY job himself after a postbox was given the golden treatment in Cornwall, where Ainslie was born, rather than Lymington. A similar situation occurred after a postbox was painted gold in Harlow, where cycling champion Laura Trott was born. After she tweeted that her hometown is in fact Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, Royal Mail said it would paint one there too. PICTURES: Olympic athletes depart from Heathrow
