I want a Bird. Help.? - Pet care and feed

My Parents said i could get a bird, but i have a problem, My Aunt has Canarys, my cousin has Budgies. The canarys have laid fertile eggs. and she said i could have one, But i dont want one, but at the same time, i do! The Thing is, I dont want a budgie, Nor a canary, I want a bird the can talk/mimic.
Which bird is best for me? ( oh and btw; the canary is free, pulse cage, i only need food, and everything else.)
1) My youngest sibling, 3
2) I have NO money, Please something A little CHEAP.
3) Please, some thing That CAN Talk/ Mimic,
4) something that can be tamed
5) please only BIRDS.
6) NOT REALLY STINKY<as it will be in MY ROOM
I think:
1) Canary
2) Ringneck Dove
3) Cockateil< even tho i want a cockatoo
4)Anything you can think of that fits/ suits me
Are these good?

Ouch!

Birds are like children. You got to know what you are getting into when you buy one.
Just to give you an example: I have a single male budgie. Everyday I let him out of his cage, talk to him, play with him if he?s in the mood. All the time he?s out, I keep an eye on him to make sure he don?t chew stuff he shouldn?t or eat something dangerous. I prepare his food (mostly pellets mixed with the vitamin supplements the avian vet prescribed, with some fresh fruits or veggies. Seeds as a treat.). I clean his cage every 3 days. More often if he spill stuff. If you can?t give you pet this minimum of attention, then you shouldn?t have one.

So:
1) You say younger siblings. How old are they? Small children should not manipulate birds. They are too fragile and young children don?t know their strength. The bird could also bite and injure the child. It?s no good. You will have to make sure the bird and your siblings are safe, all the time.

2) You get what you pay for. Plus how will you take your bird to the vet, buy proper, quality food, and provide new toys regularly for you bird?

3) You say you want a pet bird that talk. A lot of parrots can learn to talk, even some male budgies, but that?s NEVER a certitude. What will you do if your pet don?t talk? Abandon him/her? My male budgie don?t talk and I don?t expect him to. I just like his company and his funny antics.
Some larger parrots are more likely to talk but the sure aren?t cheap and should never be owned by an inexperienced owner. And even then you can?t be sure. BTW, I owned ringneck doves. They are fabulous, pets and have strong personalities but they sure can?t mimic.

4) Almost everything can be tamed if you gentle andpatient enough. Are you?

5) Uh, okay!

6) Except for a few species, domestic birds don?t have a scent (and those that do smell don?t stink). The only thing that could smell is their cage if you don?t clean it several times a week. And not just the floor. The perches, the food dishes, the toys? you?ll have to clean everything frequently to keep bacterias away.

You say you want to keep the bird in your room. What will you do when he/she start chirping early in the morning or won?t shut up when you do your homework? What will keep it entertained when you?re not home?

Canary: don?t talk/mimic and usually don?t like to be handled very much. They are not cuddly and are meant to be kept in a cage, to look pretty and sing. As they are not supposed to go out, they need a big cage with plenty of room to exercise.

Ringneck doves: As I said, no mimic and can be very loud when they coo. They are also very dusty and you will not only need to clean their cage but dust everything in the room too.

Cockatiel : The cockatiel IS a small cockatoo but thankfully they don?t require as much attention as the big ones. That doesn?t mean they don?t need a lot of care. See what I wrote about the budgie. The same apply to the cockatiel.

Don?t ever buy birds from pet stores. Try buying a person who has a store only for birds. They are way cheaper then the birds in the pet store and they know a lot more because in the pet stores there are mostly these clueless teens there that usually know nothing about the animal. I have a cockatiel and they can be trained to talk, be tame, and they are around $60-$80 dollars at a store only for birds! Good luck!

Budgies actually have one of the largest vocabularies when it comes to talking, they mimic everything if you give them time and attention. The thing is they only talk if you have them individually so make sure you have the time to spend with it so its not lonely.

I have 2 budgies (?15) breeding at the moment and 1 cockatiel (?30), they are great pets! Cockatiels do talk but are very dusty! Male budgies also talk and don?t smell and produce hardly any dust, females rarely talk. They are very easily tamed and are around ?15.

La Griffonne?s answer is the best. I have a few things to add, though. As this will be your first bird, I would not recommend a cockatoo (or anything that size; no amazons, african greys, and esp no macaws). A first bird, even for someone who has been in contact with other people?s pet birds, should be something small like a cockatiel or conure. These may talk, but in all likelihood are probably going to chirp and whistle beautifully. To encourage it to talk rather than whistle/chirp, all you should do is talk to it. Don?t mimic it when it chirps, don?t whistle at it, and ask that others do the same.Your sibling should not come in contact with it until he/she understands perfectly the concept of gentle and will not freak and throw the bird if he/she is bitten. You may be able to buy a bird cheap, but it can?t stay cheap. It needs food-seeds, fruit, and veggie, toys, perches, and all of this will need to be replaced periodically. There are also vet expenses. With any pet, that?s just something that happens. Also, birds are not stinky so long as you clean out their cage properly. They may be dusty, but you can solve that with showers, which they usually think are fun once they realize it?s ok =)

Well judging from your expectations i don?t think you could get a cockatiel as they sell $100-$200 at almost every pet store. I don?t think that ring neck doves mimic that well either. A canary can not talk. In the end, i don?t think any of the birds that you would like can talk.
But i still have a few ideas about what you can get:

1) A budgie : I know that you don?t want one but trust me, they make great pets!! They love to cuddle and play AND they CAN mimic and talk!!!! Isn?t that what you wanted?? Budgies are cheap they sell for like $15-$30. You can find them at almost any pet store. They are not stinky.

2) A lovebird : These also make excellent pets!!! However, they are not known for talking. But they are known for mimicking other sounds,. But they can be trained to talk. Lovebirds sell for about $40-$75. They aren?t stinky.

Hope I helped and Good luck!!!!
